Through new studies and research, the benefits of chiropractic care for infants and children continue to demonstrate that chiropractic is not only for pain relief, but for a variety of health benefits at all ages.
A 2019 study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, titled “Maternal Report of Outcomes of Chiropractic Care for Infants,” addressed infants and chiropractic care.
- In all, 2,001 mothers completed intake questionnaires and 1,092 completed follow-up forms.
- Statistically significant improvements were reported across all aspects of infant behavior studied.
- Areas of improvement included feeding problems, sleep issues, excessive crying, problems with supine sleep position, infant pain, and restricted cervical range of motion.
- Maternal ratings of depression, anxiety, and satisfaction with motherhood also demonstrated statistically significant improvement.
- In total, 82% reported definite improvement of their infants on a global impression of change scale.
- No adverse events were reported.

Another study, by Viola Frymann, MD, demonstrated that 90% of newborns suffered strain through the neck and cranial areas following birth trauma. Dr. Frymann studied more than 1,500 babies across an 8-year period. The study revealed that approximately:
- 10% of the newborn babies had perfect, freely mobile skulls or cranial mechanisms.
- 10% had severe trauma to the head, evident to even untrained observers.
- The remaining 80% all had some strain patterns in the cranial mechanisms—most of which are not visible to the untrained eye.
